Knitting 911: Fixing Basic Knitting Mistakes with Pam
Have dropped stitches got you down? Did you just spot a mistake a few rows back and dread the thought of ripping back? As knitters, we all make mistakes.
It’s part of knitting! In this class, Pam will show you how to recognize and easily correct many of the basic mistakes made by new and seasoned knitters alike. You’ll learn how to unknit a few stitches, rip out whole rows, turn knits into purls (and vise versa), and how to pick up dropped stitches with a crochet hook.
What You Will Learn:
-
Pick up dropped stitches
-
“Ladder down” to fix a mistake several rows back
-
Unknitting, or “tinking” back
-
Fix an accidentally added yarn over
-
Prevent working the first stitch of a row as two stitches (those who take a beginner class with me learn this in Knitting 101)
-
Rip out rows - insert a lifeline or smaller needle to make ripping back a breeze
-
Prevent and fix twisted stitches - learn about stitch orientation on the needle
-
Fix a split stitch
Pre-Class Homework:
With a medium to light colored worsted weight yarn, cast on 20 stitches using size US 7 or 8 needles (can be straights or circulars). Work in garter stitch (knit every row) for 2”, and then work in stockinette stitch (knit a row, purl a row, repeat) for another 2”. Leave on needles (do not bind off) and bring it to class with you.
Materials to Bring to Class:
-
Worsted weight swatch knit in garter stitch and stockinette stitch (shown as “Homework” in class description)
-
US7 or US8 needles
-
US E, F, or G crochet hook OR “Fix it” tool
