My First Sweater with Pam (In-Person only)

Have you been wanting to knit your first sweater? Now is the time! Join us as we make this short sleeved sweater that is sure to become a 3-season favorite in your wardrobe.

PASTEL BLUE is a circular yoke tee in DK weight yarn, combining knit and purl stitches with a lace pattern. It is worked seamlessly from the top down and additional raglan increases before separating the body and sleeves. There are no brioche stitches to be knit, although it reminds of a brioche pattern, pattern is based simply on rib stitches.

This class is available as In-Person only.

(Shop sample was knit in a DK Merino Superwash yarn from the instructor’s stash.)

Skills you will learn:

  • Gauge swatching

  • Pattern reading


  • Top down sweater construction

  • Invisible join for knitting in the round

  • Knitting in the round

  • Circular yoke

  • Various Increases, including Make 1 Right (M1R), Make 1 Left (M1L)

  • Various Decreases, including kyok, k2tog, ssk, Rsldec

  • Working with DPNs, Magic Loop, or small circumference circulars to knit sleeves

  • Weaving in ends

  • Discussion about blocking final project

Skills you already need to have:
Basic knitting skills (cast on/bind off, knit & purl, basic increases & decreases, etc), reading a pattern.

Materials to bring to the first class:
  • Pattern -  Pastel Blue by Katrin Schubert (available on Ravelry or at Dances With Wool)

  • Yarn - 600 - 1200 yards DK  (depending on size selected) 

  • Needles - 

    • US4 circular needles, in 16” and either 32” or 40”

    • US6 circular needles, in 16” and either 32” or 40”

  • 5 Stitch markers, with 1 being distinctive to use as your “beginning of round” marker

  • Waste yarn

  • Tapestry needle

Students will complete the following homework BEFORE the first class (more information included in Welcome Email from instructor):
Purchase and download pattern, determine size, select & purchase yarn and needles, work a swatch to determine proper needle size
