Introduction to Wheel Spinning (In Person Only)

If you’ve wanted the chance to try out wheel spinning, here’s your chance! This class will take you through the process of making yarn, from fiber to finished yarn. Learn the basics of drafting, twist, and plying, as well the mechanics of spinning wheels and all the different styles/options available. By the end you will have produced a 2-ply mini skein and be launched on your spinning journey! No prior spinning experience necessary!

All supplies included in class cost, as well as a $35 spinning wheel rental. If you fall in love with your wheel, the rental fee can be applied as a credit toward purchase at the end of the class! The rental wheel for this class is an Ashford Kiwi 3 treadle wheel, you can find out more information about it on their website.

This class is offered as in-person only.

What you will learn:

  • Anatomy & mechanics of a spinning wheel

  • Overview of yarn construction

  • Drafting and controlling twist

  • Basic plying

  • How to wind off & finish a skein of handspun yarn

Materials included in class cost:

  • 4 oz spinning fiber

  • Spinning wheel rental (requires signed contract and credit card guarantee - to be completed at shop PRIOR to first class)

Materials to bring to class:

  • Small scissors

  • Pen & notebook (if you like to take notes)
