Knitting 102 - My First Cabled Potholder with Pam



Cable knitting is such a fun technique that creates amazing results. In this class, you’ll learn just how easy it is to knit cables. The class project also includes some simple lace techniques, as well as how to work a 3 needle bind off. Instruction will cover knitting in-the-round on 16” circular needles, or Magic Loop on 40” circular needles. If you’ve been wanting to learn Magic Loop, this pattern is an easy introduction.

This small project packs a punch in techniques! Join the fun as we create this attractive potholder while adding some essential skills to your “knitting toolbox”! 

This class is intended for Advanced Beginner knitters. Students should be comfortable with long tail cast on, knit, purl, bind off.

Students will learn the following
techniques:

  • Reading a pattern

  • Reading and working from a chart

  • Knitting in-the-round on a 16” circular (or using Magic Loop with a 40” circular)

  • Simple lace techniques

  • Cables

  • 3 needle bind off


Materials you will need to bring to the first class:
  • Pattern -  Helping Hand by DROPS Design (Bonus! This is a FREE pattern available on Ravelry)

  • Yarn -  164 yards DK Weight (Recommended: cotton/cotton-blend yarn, or a superwash if using wool)

  • Needles

    • US 2.5 (3.0mm) 16” circular needles (or 40” circular needles for Magic Loop)

  • Cable needle

  • Stitch markers

  • Tapestry needle
