Indulgence Socks with Ute

Join us to learn knitting socks, cuff down. You can knit the socks either on double pointed needles, magic loop, small circulars or even two at the same time. You decide. The teacher will be right there by your side and support your choices.  We will also talk about the anatomy of a sock, Kitchener stitch and a number of little tricks and tips to make your sock knitting more successful.

This cozy pair of socks is knitted holding a fingering yarn and a fingering weight mohair together.  You pick your colors.  You can go multi-color or monochrome.  You will need the appropriate needles to knit your socks. If you are a tight knitter, I recommend US 3 needles, otherwise US 2 needles. We will be learning a slightly different heel, working with the yarn over short row technique.

Join us in the adventure.

Pro-Tip:

  • If you are planning to knit both socks at the same time, please have two balls (fingering yarn and mohair) of yarn for each sock.  Also allow more knitting time.

  • Using a food or postage scale weigh your yarn before winding, then divide that number in half to know approximately how large to make each ball of yarn. By re-weighing the yarn as you go, you will know when the first ball has enough. What is left will be your second ball!

Skills you will learn:

  • Yarn weight differences

  • Basic concepts (holding hook, yarn tension, yarn over)

  • Basic Stitches (chain, single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, treble crochet)

  • Change yarn colors

  • Magic loop/crocheting in a circle

  • Gauge
