Knitting 102: My First Cabled Hat with Pam



In this class, you will add to the beginner knitting techniques you’ve already learned to complete your first cabled hat. This hat is knit in the round and uses basic cabling and twisted stitches. This is a great project for an adventurous beginner ready to take on a cabled hat or an experienced knitter looking for an easy to remember, quick cabled hat pattern.

Skills you will learn:

  • Reading a pattern

    • Follow written directions as well as read a chart

  • Knitting in the round

  • Invisible join for knitting in the round

  • Body of hat is knit on 16” circulars, and finished with double pointed needles or longer circular using magic loop

  • Learn to knit cables using a cable needle, as well as how to knit 2 stitch cables without a cable needle

  • Learn several types of decreases

  • Weaving in ends



Materials to bring to class:

  • Pattern- Rhode Trip Hat by Kara McKinley (available for free on Ravelry)

  • Yarn- 120 (140, 160) yds Worsted (based on size selected

  • Needles-

    • US8 (5.0 mm) 16” circulars

    • US8 (5.0 mm) double pointed needles or (US8 32” circulars if you wish to learn Magic Loop)

  • Stitch marker

  • Cable needle

  • Darning needle
