2 Socks at a Time, Magic Loop with Ute

Join us to learn knitting socks, cuff down using the magic loop technique.  Knitting two at a time on one circular needle ensures that your increases are in the same place and so the finished pieces look the same. No more agonizing over measuring the length, is it exactly the same, no more second sock syndrome, where you have a hard knitting the second sock etc.  In addition, this technique lends itself to many other projects, like knitting mitts or sleeves at the same time.  We will also talk about the anatomy of a sock, Kitchener stitch and a number of  little tricks and tips to make your sock knitting more successful.

Knitting socks two-at-a-time requires having two balls of yarn prepped and ready. If you are working with a yarn with less yardage, you may have to purchase two balls anyway so no extra prep is required. Sock yarn, however, usually comes in a hank or ball with enough yardage in one to make a pair of socks. If this is the case in your situation, then before beginning to knit the one ball will need to be separated into two by (re)winding it into equal parts.

The pattern will be provided. You need to bring knitting needles appropriate for your yarn, markers, and fingering yarn.   If you are a tight knitter, use US 2 otherwise US 1.  Our goal is, with completing homework; you will finish a pair of socks.

Pro-Tip: Using a food or postage scale weigh your yarn before winding, then divide that number in half to know approximately how large to make each ball of yarn. By re-weighing the yarn as you go, you will know when the first ball has enough. What is left will be your second ball!
