Virtual Class: Introduction to Cables

Nothing adds dimension, texture and pizzazz to your knitting like cables! Cable knitting is a style of knitting in which textures of crossing layers are achieved by knitting groups of stitches out of order. Come learn how easy it is to create the beautiful cables in the Homebound Hat.

In this class, students will learn:

  • The Old Norwegian Cast On 

  • How to work various cables

  • Reading a chart

  • How to color code your chart to recognize cable symbols quickly

For this class you will need the following materials:

  • Pattern: Homebound by rhyFlower Knits (available on Ravelry)

  • Yarn: 170 yds DK weight yarn 

  • Needles: 

    • US4 16” circular needle

    • US6 16” circular needle

    • US6 32” or longer circular needle for magic loop   - OR -   four US6 double-pointed needles (DPNs) if you prefer not to work crown with magic loop 

  • Cable needle

  • Stitch marker

  • Tapestry needle

This is a virtual class taught on Zoom. Pam will send out log-in information prior to the first class.

This class is designed for Ambitious Beginners and Seasoned Knitters alike who wish to learn to knit cables. Skills required: cast on, knit, purl, bind off. Knitting in the round experience is helpful, but not necessary.
