IMPORTANT: Support classes are held virtually via Zoom (two day/time options will be offered for each support session). Although we are willing to provide support and answer questions when needed, we will not be making up the sessions. We do record the Zoom sessions and you will receive a link to watch the recording if you are unable to attend a session.
Evenstar, by Susan Pandorf is a full sized round shawl inspired by Arwen’s Evenstar from Lord of the Rings. The shawl takes 1500 yards of laceweight yarn and approximately 3000 beads. [Note: Beads are completely optional. We will also have a "lightly beaded" option you can follow as well.] Our Year-long KALs are designed to be skill-builders, but we do recommend you be familiar with the following: knitting in the round, basic increases (knit front & back, M1L, M1R), basic decreases (k2tog, ssk), how to work yarn overs, and how to read a pattern. We'll guide you through the rest with our support sessions, where we'll cover skills like using charts, stitch markers, lifelines, placing beads, and more! There is no cost to join the knit-a-long.
Check out this Inspire Me video where Erin shares more information about the KAL:
Dances With Wool will be offering your choice of three yarns for this project. We will be ordering the yarn in February in your choice of color. Beads can be purchased online (we will discuss good online bead sources at the first support session) or at Bangles and Beads in Carytown, at 3322 W. Cary Street.
Yarn for this KAL can be purchased online (see links below), or in the shop. All yarn will be dyed to order! We will close ordering on January 23. Orders will then be sent to the dyers. All yarn should be ready for pickup/shipping by the end of February.
We will be ordering NFC Capitol Luxury Lace (Merino/Cashmere/Silk) from Neighborhood Fiber Co. in your choice of color. You will need 3 skeins. Click here to purchase. On the product page there will be a link to the NFC website so you can see and choose your color. Don't forget to put your color choice in the Notes section of your order! Cost for the three skeins will be $90, a savings of 20%.
Your second choice is Fyberspates Gleem Lace (BFL/Silk). You will need 2 skeins. Click here to purchase. On the product page there will be a link to the Fyberspates website so you can see and choose your color. Don't forget to put your color choice in the Notes section of your order! Cost for the two skeins is $55, a savings of 20%. This is a great choice if you are planning to use more beads.
We are offering a third choice of our own Rich Hill Yarn dyed in a BFL Super Silky Lace blend of 55% Bluefaced Leicester and 45% silk. Abbie and Jeff will dye to order in your choice of Rich Hill Yarn colors. You will need 2 skeins. Click here to purchase. Cost for two skeins will be $58, a savings of 20%. This will also be a good choice for a heavily beaded shawl.
Note: An interchangeable set of needles will be ideal, as you need to add longer cords as the shawl grows. You will also be using from a size 3 to 6 US needle. We will offer all participants the chance to order an interchangeable needle set through us for 20% off retail price beginning in January after you sign up.
Of course, you may order your own yarn of choice. Buying the yarn from us is not a requirement to participate, but we ask that you to please consider shopping with us to support our business during these difficult times.
