Thrummed Socks with Ute Grzanna

Thrum knitting is a time honored tradition of knitting unspun wool inside socks, hats or mitts to create a feel of natural insulation.

You will learn to take wisps of fleece and knit them into your socks. As roving is knitted in it shows up on the outside of your work as specs of color. On the inside, it creates a natural insulation layer.

If you have never knitted socks, this class provides a good introduction, since we will go over techniques for sock knitting as well as thrumming. In addition, the yarn is thicker than traditional sock yarn, making it easier to learn and faster to achieve your completed pair. You avid sock knitters, we will be discussing different kinds of heel, like fish lips kiss, afterthought and the traditional one.
