"Oncer" Workshop: Introduction to Tapestry Weaving with Erin


Come learn a fun new skill with an introduction to tapestry weaving! In this workshop you’ll learn the skills to create your own unique wall hanging. You don’t need any prior weaving experience. In fact, you don’t need any prior fiber crafts experience at all - this would be a great introduction to the fiber world for your friend who doesn’t knit or crochet! 

All the necessary materials are provided in the kit from Neighborhood Fiber Co.:

Pop Out Loom & Tools kit by Black Sheep Goods

2 15g balls of Studio Worsted

2 15 g balls of Rustic Bulky

2 7.5g bundles of Empire Roving

8 yds of Studio Sock

You may want to bring along your scissors, though we will have some to share.

Skills Learned:

Basic introduction to weaving:

Basic terminology (warp, weft, etc) and equipment (shed stick, shuttle, etc)

Warp loom

3 basic weaving techniques: plain/tabby weave, rya knot (fringe), soumak weave

Color blocking and outlining techniques

Remove weaving from loom and secure ends

Prep weaving for hanging
