Mosaic Mania Workshop with Ute Grzanna

Mosaic knitting is one form of colorwork, where you only use one color at a time.  Great for a knitter who has not done a lot of colorwork.  In the first session, Ute will be happy to help you help you with your color selections.  We will begin the shawl, and talk about cast ons and bind offs, then we will jump into mosaic knitting.  The pattern writes the instructions out and provides a chart.  We will go over both to choose which suits you.

In the second session we will review your work and address any issues you encountered with your project.  Then we will have a broader introduction to other forms of knitted colorwork, like intarsia, fair isle, bohus.  We will talk about "messy backs", wrapping yarns vs. floats and how you can tell the different techniques apart.

Class dates:  October 6 and October 13, 1:30-3:00 (For the first class, please arrive 30 minutes early if you would like Ute to help you pick colors.  This will give you time to purchase and wind your yarn.)

Skill Level:  Advanced Beginner; need to know how to cast on, knit, purl, slip stitches, bind off

Materials needed:

Pattern:  Mosaic Mania

Needles:  US 5

Yarn:  Two different Crazy Zauberballs and about 800 yds. of  solid color fingering yarn (the sample uses black).
